Shat Gambuj Mosque
The Shat Gambuj Mosque is the most impressive multi-domed mosque in Bangladesh. It stands on the eastern shore of a huge freshwater reservoir. The mosque is covered with 77 squat domes, including 7 reclining or four-sided domes in the middle row.
The huge prayer hall has 11 arched doors on the east and 7 on the north and south for ventilation and light. It has 7 naves and 11 deep bays with a forest of thin stone columns. From these columns extend rows of endless arches that support the dome.
The arch is six feet thick, with slightly tapering hollows and circular walls. The interior and exterior of the mosque give an impression of a rather simple architecture, but the inner western wall of the mosque was beautifully decorated with terracotta flowers and leaves.
Besides being used as a place of prayer, the mosque also served as the court of Khan Jahan Ali. It is now one of the biggest tourist attractions and the best architectural beauty of Bangladesh.
